Jock’s Ice Cream and Sorbets (83 Victoria Ave, Albert Park VIC 3206)

Located right near the bay, Jock’s is a vintage inspired shop with a colourful awning with outdoor seating, original flavours and even t-shirts to sell with the logo! Every time you go in there will be a different flavor as they change seasonally. Jock’s have recently partnered with UberEats so you can now get ice-cream right to your door. The hokey-pokey is Jock’s cult classic but the ice-cream sandwiches are pretty neat too and they are all made with quality ingredients.

Gelato Messina (237 Smith St, Fitzroy -164 Swan St, Richmond -171 Chapel St , South Yarra)

A place to go if you are after inventive flavours like Apple Pie, Coconut and Lychee and Pannacotta with Fig Jam and Amaretti Biscuit. The authenticity in the flavours is enhanced by the odd piece of pith or pip in the gelato, so you know it’s fresh. Using ingredients in their raw and natural form, you can be assured that there are no artificial colours or flavours here. First opening in Darlinghurst, product is made on the premises daily across 3 stores in Melbourne alone. Watch this space because Messina is soon to be conquering the States.

Billy van creamy (27-29 Best Street, Fitzroy North)

Another ice creamery making product from scratch daily with organic milk and other fresh produce is Billy van creamy. Enjoy an ice cream inspired by the childhood joy of this cold delicacy but served with a side of sophistication that adults adore with flavours like espresso and vegan peanut butter chocolate chip. As a brand, they also aim to reduce their environmental impact by ethically sourcing materials used in their store, for recyclable packaging and anywhere in their supply chain. If you are out and about look out for the brand as they also have a truck appearing at local events and festivals.

Pidapipo’s (299 Lygon Street, Carlton)

This Italian Gelataria is an ode to Lisa Valmorbido’s heritage as it was established after visiting her Italian roots and tasting gelato with her nonno. Stored in stainless steel pozzetti and made with the finest ingredients, the gelato is freshly made daily. With various toppings such as Nutella drizzled on top, Italian favourites such as pistachio and tiramisu and more contemporary flavours like salted caramel and banoffee, you’ll be coming back for more.

Davey Mac’s (602 Balcombe Rd, Black Rock)

Davey Mac’s is in the Bayside suburb of Black Rock, so if you are down this way for a trip to the beach, visit Davey Mac’s. With a mint green exterior and vintage posters, this ice cream shop offers a range of exclusive flavours made daily on the premises by owner, Davey McCowan himself. The most popular flavours prove to be ferraro and salted caramel but you can’t leave without trying the licorice or the dark chocolate that is so dark in colour due to it being a sorbet. Locals and tourists alike both flock here in summer with queues out the door.
